HAPPY FALL!!!! Fall is my FAVORITE :) We are soon going to need TISSUES in the classroom. If anyone can bring them in that would be great! Apparently, with my favorite season comes the "5th grade crud". We've had a lot of students (and teachers) with colds, etc. Please remind the kids that they need to be washing their hands a LOT. Eating healthy foods and getting plenty of exercise also helps boost immune systems :) Get that Vitamin C! *This is the last day I will post homework on this blog. Starting tomorrow, look for homework in the homework tab of my weebly website (missexumsclass.weebly.com). I will still update daily. Homework: Read 30 minutes and respond by writing about your main character's emotions. What are they feeling in the part that you read? Why are they feeling that way? Math: Go to http://5thgradedecimals.weebly.com/ and follow the directions. Yes, this is new and different!

Happy Monday! Read 30 minutes NO MATH HOMEWORK-assessment day ***Picture day forms are going home TODAY. You will see them in your child's bookbag, not in the Monday folder-it was the only thing to send home today. ***Remember that Thursday is a TEACHER WORK DAY-no school for students.

Tuesday, September 16

Read 30 minutes and respond by telling how and why your character has changed throughout your book. If your character hasn't changed, you just started a book, you're reading nonfiction, etc. then you can think about "Because of Mr. Terupt" or another book you've read this year on your own. Math: ONE PROBLEM!! You are responsible for solving AND GIVING A GOOD EXPLANATION. Why did you do what you did? How did you know it was right? How did you check your work? ***DON'T FORGET! Open House is THIS Thursday (September 18th). The DC meeting will start at 5 in the cafeteria. 5th grade open house will be IN the cafeteria following the DC meeting. There will be two sessions of open house.

September 15th

Math: Day 13 "Dinner planning" Read 30 minutes and tell if and how a character in your story is changing. If you are reading nonfiction or don't have a character who is changing, use "Because of Mr. Terupt" as your example. Monday folders DID go home today! Important information is inside.

September 11 Homework

Read: 30 minutes and make two connections to the text (write them down) Math: More division practice :) *Please sign and return the compacts that went home in the green folders! Have your child ask for another one if you need!

Homework Sept. 4th: Math: Solve both problems using BOTH area model AND the standard algorithm (324 x 25 and 672 x 14) Read 30 minutes. Make an inference about your character USING information (clues) from the text REMEMBER: tomorrow is an early release!! School will dismiss at 1:15

September 3 Math: Day 6 homework (more multiplication practice) Read 30 minutes and respond by describing the main character in your story. What is this person LIKE? **DON'T FORGET-there is an early release on FRIDAY!! School will dismiss at 1:15.

Monday, March 24th

Hello, parents! A few announcements... *We are in need of copy paper for the classroom! If you can send some in, that would be fantastic! *The DC parent trip announcement is on my website's home page! Your student is getting a flier to bring home to you TODAY. The meeting is this WEDNESDAY! *PLEASE, please remind your students about all the ways we can NOT share germs during this flu season :) I am reminding them every day here at school, but always appreciate the back-up at home! *Don't forget that next week is SPRING BREAK!
